Spaceballs The Costume Group by FenigDurak Spaceballs The Costume Group by FenigDurak
Starfest 2007. Denver, Colorado. Roughly 9 PM on Saturday night. Spaceballs! The Costume Group!

From left to right:
Dark Helmet - Nigel
Mega Maid - Jyn
A-holes - Andrea and Troy
Yogurt - Dave
Strawberry - Lynelle
Stunt Double to the Princess - Kenny
Dot Matrix - Kathy
Her Royal Highness' Matched Luggage - Itself
Industrial Strength Hair Dryer - Itself
Lonestar - Frank
Barf - Drew
Commander - Gina
Princess Vespa - Yours truly

Yeah, I even put together the trunk and the hairdryer. I had to. It was necessary. We took Best of Show, but by the skin of our teeth. There was some seriously stiff competition this year. The Pirates of Ill Repute were absolutely amazing, and definately deserve a ton of recognition.

Costumes made by me: Vespa, Stunt Double, Dark Helmet, and the Upside of the Schwartz Ring gracing Lonestar's hand. I'll post a picture of those later. Everyone else made their own costumes for this. Otherwise it wouldn't have gotten done. ;)

ack *is ambushed by the princess* what's the hug for and to this day I still find that scene with the stunt doubles funny... that and the scene where Helmet makes faces at Skroob under his helmet.

The Dark Helmet stuff was kind of a process. A large enough block had to be built of stiff insulation foam, then carved into the right shape, then sliced in half to be vac-formed. Then riveted and bondo'd together, then primed and painted. Lots of steps. Took forever.

Lol, what a wonderful idea! I love that you did the hairdryer as well - that's my absolute favorite part of that film (that and the guys combing the desert with the pick).

The costumes are amazing.

Thank you very much! We're actually giving a panel at a con in a few weeks about this whole endeavor. Not sure why as I think it's a pretty straight forward costume set, but whatever. Gets me into the con cheap.

I also call them Strawberries, but I believe the correct term is Dink-Dinks. If there had been a Prince Valion or side effect of the Special...

We had debated making Nigel be Prince Valium, but he made a much better Dark Helmet.

Thanks! I had a blast with these costumes too. So nice to do a costume that doesn't require elaborate hair or makeup.

Haha, this is awesome!! It looks like you all had a lot of fun and the costumes are so cool :) This makes me realize just how long it's been since I've seen that movie, though.
